Après Ski in St. Anton

Arlberg Mountain as the Cradle of the Skiing Culture

Arlberg and St. Anton have always been important sites for ski sports. Arlberg is not only the cradle of alpine skiing: this region and especially St. Anton are strongly linked with après ski.

Today après ski is very essential for a perfect day of skiing for some and less so for others. The range at Basecamp stretches from a cosy get-together with a lovely meal to boisterous party deep into the night.

St. Anton: cradle of alpine skiing

The first holiday guests were welcomed on the Arlberg and especially in St. Anton already in the 19th century. Since then there have been a lot of “firsts”: the first skiing club, the first ski race, the first skiing school and last but not least one of the first professional and spectacular skiing films: Der Weisse Rausch (“The White Ecstasy”). No wonder that a formidable après ski culture has been developed here as well.

Après ski in St. Anton

The expression origins in the French language and was created in the French winter stronghold Chamonix. At the same time St. Anton already offered a great party culture and the expression “après ski” (=after skiing) was established because of its exotic sound.

Après ski at Basecamp

At Basecamp all après ski aspects are combined: arrive directly from the piste, take off your skis and you are already at the umbrella bar. Located right between the Galzigbahn and Gampenbahn’s valley station and only a couple of steps away from the centre and pedestrian area, this après ski bar with excellent cuisine has become a legendary venue in St. Anton since its opening in 2000. If you prefer a cosier atmosphere, there are also lovely booths, a small selection of fresh and homemade dishes, that you will find nowhere else on the pistes, and a great selection of finest wines, also served in big bottles. Dance and music-hungry ears will be indulged with great sounds by international DJs: first-class atmosphere guaranteed.

By the way: when partying remember that all the gorgeous St. Anton ski pistes are waiting for you the next day. If you are still looking for a quiet hideaway with all amenities of a 4-star hotel, then Bergschlössl with only 10 individual rooms right at the Gampenbahn valley station is perfectly right for you.
